Abstract

The author describes the circumstances of the establishment of the
Pracownia Śląska in the Biblioteka Śląska in Katowice in 1962. This
reading room became a place of creative work and lively discussions
for scholars from Katowice, Wrocław, Opole and Kraków. Research
work was also carried out by Alojzy Targ, the head of the Pracownia
Śląska, and Jadwiga Kucianka, who was employed there. The article
presents their professional activity, carried out in difficult times of surveillance by the security services.
