Abstract

In 1922, the autonomous Silesian Voivodeship was established and
in October of this year, the first meeting of the new institution, the
Silesian Parliament (Sejm Śląski), took place. For the needs of the
Parliament’s members, a small repository of legal books was created.
In a dozen years this collection developed into a public research
library, the main core of which was works related to Silesia. As a regional library, it obtained the right to a legal deposit from the area
of Silesian Voivodeship. The article presents the beginnings of the
activity of the Silesian Parliament Library, its transformation into
the Silesian Public Library, and the institution’s development until
the outbreak of World War II.
