Polak w Śląsko. Anonimowy dialog siedemnastowieczny w kręgu tradycji staropolskiej literatury popularnej i Krótkiej rozprawy… Mikołaja Reja (PDF 2,47 MB)
Abstract
The author of the article aims to examine which old Polish literary
convention the Polish anonymous seventeenth-century dialogue,
“Polak w Śląsko”, refers to. The author’s research material consists of
the two, not much different versions of the work: a manuscript, from
the collection of Boleslaw Erzepki, owned by the Silesian Library in
Katowice and a printed version from 1939, edited by Roman Pollak.
The paper corrects some ideological theses of historians of literature
before 1989. It has been proven that the relationship with the dialogue
of Mikołaj Rej is literary, not ideological, because the anonymous poet
did not promote changes or repairs of political or social relations in
Silesia in the XVII century. A nameless creator implemented the literary technique of Rej’s narrative, to enhance the pictoriality of it. The
article also indicates the distinct features of the picaresque style in the
analysed dialogue. It has been confirmed that the action was outlined
in it, and the language of interlocutors is individualised, which allows
one to determine the characterological features of the interlocutors.
The mentioned properties of style, language and composition will enable us to consider the analysed text as a picaresque work and situate
it in the evolutionary trend of the old Polish dramatic genres, as it
manifests significant features of seventeenth-century intermedia.
