Abstract

Zbigniew Drzewiecki was a famous Polish pianist and piano teacher
who nurtured a significant group of students. Among them were
many winners of international competitions. Although he didn’t
establish any uniform school of pianistic interpretation, many of his
pupils treated him as an authority and the creator of their artistic
maturity. From 1960 to 1963, his wife Barbara recorded twenty audio
tapes containing fifty-five hours of lessons delivered by the professor to his students. These phonograms are of poor quality and require restoration due to distortions. Another issue is the necessity of obtaining rights from the recorded pianists or their heirs.
Despite these facts, the recordings are a rich source of knowledge about Drzewiecki’s methods, his aesthetic viewpoint, his attitude
toward students, and detailed notes on musical works.
