The author outlines the history of phonography in Silesia beginning
in 1907, when the Allegro-Record company was founded in Katowice. The article highlights some of the earliest recordings of Polish
repertoire produced in Silesia and mentions recording sessions organized by international corporations. It examines the operation
of the phonographic industry during the interwar period and after
World War II (noting that no recordings were made in Poland during
the war). The analysis concludes in 1957, when shellac records were
replaced by vinyl LP records.
