Digitising archives and making them widely available online has become a common practice among many associations and institutions.
Institutions are increasingly willing to acquire written and audio documents from local communities. They implement projects aimed
at digitising such “artefacts” giving them a “new” virtual life. Digitisation is a process that involves many people. The collaboration of
various specialists with different competencies affects the quality of
archival searches – metadata content, the accuracy of descriptions,
and a range of conveniences (or their absence) for users. This article
contains statements from specialists and practitioners aimed at answering the question: What is lacking in current digital databases?
Do online archives meet the needs of users?
