Abstract

The main purpose of the essay is to present the part of Alfred Jesionowski’s (1902–1945?) literary and material heritage, preserved in his
family archives. The text, divided in five parts, deals with the problem
of the complex biography of the right-wing writer and literary critic,
teacher, radio journalist and expert in Polish-German relationship
and his activity in Polish Silesia before the second world war. More-over, it presents the contents of Jesionowski’s home archive, both material and literary artefacts the widow and daughters conserved. Five
categories of object are mentioned, such as: utility items, including
a collection of xylography and some pieces of furniture, personal
records, photographs and identity documents, books and the “main
archive” itself. Hence, the special stress is given to the archive containing Jesionowski’s writings (typescripts and manuscripts) as far as
his publications and their reviews (collected by the critic in the form
of press clippings) and his correspondence with the literary milieu of
the interwar period. In addition, some fragments of his letters from
nazi-German prison are quoted. Last but not least, the importance
of the study of the content of Jesionowski’s archive is discussed and
commented in the context of history and culture.
