Abstract

In 2023, the Silesian Library purchased 440 photographs from the
collection of Józef Mayer, a distinguished employee of this institution. He was a researcher, literary scholar and bibliographer, academic teacher, author of numerous articles and studies, but also
a bibliophile and lover of theater and ballet. The pictures, taken mainly in the interwar years, are a prove of his other out-of-work passions:
tourism and photography. The article recalls the figure of Józef Mayer
and discusses his fascinating journeys, colorfully described in reports
published in the interwar press and documented in black-and-white
photographs.
